Micturition dysfunction is one of the important factors for the decline of postoperative quality of life in patients with rectal cancer. The type and degree of micturition dysfunction are affected by many factors, including patient related factors, such as age, gender, tumor related factors and treatment related factors, such as surgical procedure, whether adjuvant radiotherapy and chemotherapy or not, etc. Existing studies have expounded the risk factors of postoperative micturition dysfunction in patients with rectal cancer from different angles. By reviewing the literature on the surgical treatment and postoperative quality of life of rectal cancer in recent years, this paper summarizes the effects of patient related factors and treatment related factors on postoperative micturition dysfunction in patients with rectal cancer. In order to comprehensively clarify the possible risk factors of postoperative micturition dysfunction in patients with rectal cancer, it is helpful to improve treatment measures to reduce the incidence of postoperative urinary dysfunction.
