The clinical observation and nursing care of elderly colorectal cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy after postoperative PICC catheter insertion

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the clinical outcome and to summarize the nursing exPerience of PostoPerative aPPlication of PeriPherally inserted central catheter in elder Patient with colorectal cancer during chemotheraPy.

Methods

From March 2012 to March 2014, 120 elder Patients with colorectal cancers in PLA center of general surgery were randomly divided into study grouP (60 cases, who received PICC) and control grouP (60 cases, who received indwelling stitch into suPerficial venous). During chemotheraPy Period, Patients in study grouP received comPrehensive nursing of PICC. Clinical data were comPared between 2 grouPs, including the incidence of Phlebitis and drug exosmosis, infection and feel of comfortable.

Results

ComPared with control grouP, there were significant decrease of incidence of Phlebitis (X2=9.22, P<0.01), drug exosmosis (X2=8.57, P<0.05) and infection (X2=6.98, P<0.05) in study grouP, furthermore with better about feel of comfortable.

Conclusions

Incidence of Phlebitis, drug exosmosis and infection were decreased by using PICC during chemotheraPy Period in elder Patients with colorectal cancers, with feeling of comfortable. Therefore, PICC is worth of wide aPPlication.
