Abstract:

Objective

To assess the nutritional status in elderly patients with colorectal cancer and to analyze the correlation between different tools, and to confirm the correlation of short-form mini nutritional assessment(MNA-SF)along with NRS-2002 with classical nutritional markers.

Methods

Nutritional status of 125 hospitalized aged patients with colorectal cancer were evaluated by MNA-SF and NRS2002, and at the same time measured their classical nutritional markers. Then the relevance between them was analyzed.

Results

The prevalence of malnutrition in 125 patients by BMI, MNA-SF and NRS2002 was 30.0%, 59.2% and 59.2% respectively.MNA-SF and NRS2002 had the unanimous correlation with classical nutritional markers.

Conclusion

There is a high prevalence of malnutrition in elderly patients with colorectal cancer.MNA-SF and NRS2002 are suitable tools to evaluate the nutritional status of the hospitalized aged patients with colorectal cancer, though the reliability is to be further confirmed in our country.
