Clinical observation of external dissection and internal ligation combined with or without tissue-selecting therapy for severe mixed hemorrhoids

Objective

To observe the clinical efficacy of tissue-selecting therapy (TST) in treating mixed hemorrhoids.

Methods

60 cases of mixed hemorrhoids were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 30 cases for each. The former received TST, the latter received external dissection and internal ligation. Both groups were compared for clinical efficacy.

Results

There was no significant difference between two groups in treatment effect (P>0.05) and postoperative bleeding (χ²=0.80, P>0.05). Treatment group was superior to control group in the aspect of postoperative pain (χ²=22.5, P<0.01), swelling (χ²=10.76, P=0.001),retention of urine (χ²=4.32, P=0.038) and hospital stay (t=73.50, P<0.01).

Conclusions

It is concluded that TST is similar to external dissection and internal ligation in curative effect of treating mixed hemorrhoids, but has significant advantages in postoperative pain,swelling,retention of urine and hospital stay.
