Abstract:

The development of laparoscopic technology has made it a regular application in treating colonic cancers. According to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network(NCCN) guidelines, however, laparoscopic operations are not recommended in treating T4 colonic cancer with local organ invasion. Researchers have compared laparoscopic operation and open approach in treating T4 colonic cancers in terms of operational safety, oncological outcome and long-terms survival rates, and the results indicate no significant difference. Since laparoscopic operation for T4 colonic cancer requires high levels of operational proficiency and lack support from evidence provided by prospective controlled randomized experiments, the adequacy of their clinical applications is still undermined. This article provides a conspectus of the development in laparoscopic treatment for T4 colonic cancers.
