Observation on the effects of application of hydrocolloid dressing on the prevention of phlebitis caused by Oxaliplatin

Objective

To investigate the effects of hydrocolloid dressing on phlebitis prevention caused by Oxaliplatin.

Methods

From January 2015 to March 2016, seventy-six colon cancer patients treated with XELOX regimen in the First Hospital of China Medical University were randomly divided into observation group and control group. The observation group was treated by hydrocolloid dressing placed on the skin above puncture point along with the blood vessels, control group was treated regularly, and the incidence of phlebitis in two groups was compared.

Results

The incidence of phlebitis in the observation group was 10.5%, while the control group was 31.6% , with a statistically significant difference between the two groups (χ²=5.067, P<0.05).

Conclusions

Hydrocolloid dressing can effectively reduce phlebitis caused by Oxaliplatin and protect patient′s peripheral vein. It has the advantages of easily operation, comfortable feeling, and can also save unnecessary manpower.
