Discussion on ten measures of the entire nursing for chemotherapy-related intestinal obstruction

Abstract:

Objective

Discussion on the measures of entire nursing and procedure about chemotherapy-related intestinal obstruction.

Methods

Twenty-two cancer patients with chemotherapy-related drug-induced intestinal obstruction adopt comprehensive internal medical treatment in conjunction with the entire ten measures sequentially care: assist condition observed, psychological counseling, nasogastric tube implants and decompression nursing, oral nursing, central venous catheter and nursing, application of laxative agent and sesame oil, abdominal massage with thermal therapy, pharmaceutical nursing, diet care, discharge guidance.

Results

Twenty-one out of 22 (95.45%) cases of intestinal obstruction were relieved in 1~11 days, median duration of response was 5 days, one death case (4.55%).

Conclusions

Cancer patients with chemotherapy-related intestinal obstruction were well recovered about a week with the timely diagnosis, and adopt comprehensive internal medical treatment in conjunction with the entire ten measures sequentially care. However, it is difficult to reverse if the delay in treatment. Nursing measures and procedures need further discussing and improvement.
