Abstract:

Persistent descending mesocolon (PDM) is caused by the incomplete fusion of the descending colon and retroperitoneum. It is usually asymptomatic. However, persistent descending mesocolon, congenital adhesion of the right sigmoid colon to the ileocecal region, and anatomical variation of the inferior mesenteric artery may affect surgical decision-making and difficulty level in colorectal cancer. We report the diagnosis and treatment of a case of sigmoid colon cancer with liver metastasis combined with PDM, and describe the experience and points for attention of the laparoscopic surgery.
