Application of enteral nutrition combined with double cannula in the treatment of anastomotic fistula after resection for rectal cancer

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the application of enteral nutrition combined with double cannula douche and negative pressure drainage in the treatment of anastomotic fistula after resection for rectal cancer.

Methods

A retrospective study was performed among 97 patients who underwent radical resection for rectal cancer from January 2010 to December 2015. All 97 patients were positioned double cannula drainage under the anastomotic after resection. Once the fistula happened, patients were received the continuous double cannula douche and enteral nutrion timely.

Results

The fistula was happened in 12 of 97 patients underwent radical resection for rectal cancer, and all patients recovered from the double cannula douche and negative pressure drainage combined with enteral nutrition.

Conclusions

The application of double cannula drainage and enteral nutrition was worth of early use when anastomotic fistula happened, which could promote the healing of fistula and improve the prognosis.
