Great progress has been achieved in of small bowel transplantation over the past 30 years.Currently, SBT is no longer considered an experimental procedure and has become one of a lifesaving therapy in selective patients with irreversible loss of intestinal function.The Transplant Registry has shown that current 1-yr and 5-yr patient and graft survival rates are more than 70% and 50% respectively.Postoperative infection and rejection are still the most disturbing complications in patients undergoing small bowel transplantation.This article summarizes recent advances in its indications, the evaluation of candidates, controlling rejection and infection for living-related small bowel transplantation after surgery.
