Abstract:

Objective

To explore the application of GI-pill gastrointestinal electronic capsule in slow transit constipation.

Methods

81 patients with slow transit constipation, who had been ruled out outlet obstructive constipation and organic intestinal disease and agreed to move forward with the test of GI-pill gastrointestinal electronic capsule, were assigned randomly into two groups.42 cases of study group were given gastrointestinal electronic capsule and X-ray opaque granules capsule, while 39 cases of control group were given X-ray opaque granules capsule alone. The clinical records including diet, activation and rest would be accomplished after oral administration. The abdominal X-ray would be carried out every 24 hours until the number of residual X-ray opaque granules was less than 4.In the meantime the operating state of data recorder in vitro would be observed continuously until the electronic capsule was excreted and recycled. The results of colonic transit test in two groups would be used by case-control analysis. The records of GI-pill gastrointestinal electronic capsule including transit time in vivo, stomach, small intestine and colon, the number of HAPCs and the ratio of physiological response would be analyzed.

Results

In study group and control group respectively, the average time of colonic transit test was 4.94±1.31 days and 4.85±1.35 days. The transit time of right colon, left colon and rectosigmoid was1.38±0.62days and 1.35±0.53days, 1.97±0.99 days and 2.02±0.90days, 1.52±0.74 days and 1.58±0.71days respectively, which showed no significant difference. In study group the transit time of GI-pill gastrointestinal electronic capsule in vivo was 5.0±0.64 days and colonic transit time was 4.9±1.32 days. The transit time of gastrointestinal electronic capsule of stomach, small intestine and colorectum was 5.83±3.12hours and 8.75±4.01 hours, 94.7±17.63 hours, respectively.During the study period, there were no discomfort performances of abdominal pain, vomiting and tarry stool in patients.

Conclusions

GI-pill gastrointestinal electronic capsule in good agreement with colonic transit test could be applied to assess continuously the dynamic characteristics of digestive tract in patients with slow transit constipation. It is worth popularizing application in clinic.
