Improving awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of syndrome of splenic flexure of colon

Abstract:

Splenic flexure syndrome refers to excessive gas or feces accumulated at splenic flexure of colon, which presents with abdominal distention, abdominal pain and chronic incomplete colon obstruction.The etiology is not clear, some scholars think that it is associated with abnormal congenital colonic fix point.Barium enema with x-ray is most commonly used to diagnose the syndrome.Surgery is the most reasonable and ideal treatment, which includes partial, subtotal or total colectomy.Adequate preoperative preparation is the key of the surgery.
