Abstract:

Objective

To explore the effect of empowerment-based education model on self-efficacy and stoma self-care ability of patients undergoing prophylactic ileostomy,so as to provide a theoretical basis for choosing a health education model suitable for patients with prophylactic ileostomy.

Methods

By purposive sampling, 70 patients were enrolled. All the patients received low anterior resection+preventive ileostomy surgery from July 2019 to October 2021 in VIP ward of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, and they were divided into two groups with the method of random number table, Finally, 32 cases in the control group and 34 cases in the observation group completed the cost study. Observation group carried out of education model based on empowerment theory, while control group adopted routine health education. To observe the differences in self-efficacy and stoma self-care ability.

Results

Before intervention, there was no difference in the scores of stoma self-efficacy (t=1.638,P=0.106), self-care ability (t=-0.404,P=0.688), self-care will (t=-0.659,P=0.512) and self-care knowledge (t=0.947,P=0.347). On discharge day and four weeks after discharge, there were significant differences in the scores of stoma self-efficacy (t=2.714,P=0.009/t=4.516,P<0.001), self-care ability (t=3.827,P<0.001/t=4.245,P<0.001), self-care will (t=3.603,P=0.001/t=5.017,P<0.001) and self-care knowledge (t=2.888, P<0.005/t=4.093,P<0.001).

Conclusion

Education model based on empowerment theory can effectively improve the self-efficacy and stoma self-care ability of patients undergoing prophylactic ileostomy.
