Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the expression of osteopontin (OPN) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in colon cancer tissues and its clinical significance.

Methods

100 cases of colon cancer surgical specimens filed between January 2016 and February 2018 in the Department of Pathology, Fourth People′s Hospital of Hengshui City were selected as the study group, and 100 cases of adjacent normal tissues were selected as the study control group according to 1:1. Immunohistochemistry was used to detect the expression of OPN and COX-2 in the two groups.

Results

The positive rate of OPN expression in the study group was 84.0% higher than that in the control group (17.0%, χ2=89.789, P=0.000). The positive expression rate of COX-2 in the study group was 78.0%, which was significantly higher than that in the control group (32.0%, χ2=42.747, P=0.000). The positive expression of OPN was associated with TNM stage, differentiation and lymph node metastasis of colon cancer (P<0.05). The positive expression of COX-2 was associated with TNM stage and lymph node metastasis of colon cancer (P<0.05). The positive expression of OPN in colon cancer tissues was positively correlated with the positive expression of COX-2 (r=3.821, P=0.000).

Conclusion

It is important to guide the clinical diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer by detecting the expression levels of OPN and COX-2.
