The cause and measurement of colonic fistulas after operation of severe acute pancreatitis

Abstract:

Objective

To investigate the causes and methods of prevention of colonic fistulas after operation of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP).

Methods

A retrospective study was performed among 78 SAP cases from Huaian Hospital to find out the related factors of colonic fistulas and to evaluate the methods of prevention and treatment.

Results

78 SAP patients were underwent operation. Colonic fistulas occurred in 14 SAP patients, among which 12 patients recovered while 2 patients died.

Conclusions

The risk factors of colonic fistula include anatomic factors, local inflammatory, improper operative time and surgical therapy, and so on. Early nutrition support, appropriate double cannula drainage, timely colostomy can accelerate the progression of the healing of colonic fistula.
