Comparative research between preoperative T staging by ERUS and EUS in rectal cancer

Objective

To compare the accuracy of ERUS and EUS in predicting the preoperative T staging of rectal cancer.

Methods

35 patients with rectal cancer being treated in Qian foshan hospital from May 2011 to May 2012 were involved into this study.ERUS and EUS were performed to obtain the staging for each of the patients.The accuracy of the results were examed by the postoperative pathologic examination.The datas were tested with χ²-test.

Results

The accuracy of ERUS in T staging was 91.4%, while the EUS was 71.4%.ERUS showed significant higher accuracy than EUS.(χ2=4.000, P<0.05).

Conclusions

ERUS and EUS are indispensable in predicting the invasive depth of rectal cancer.ERUS should be the first choice for preoperative T staging in rectal cancer.
